Robeez was began in 1994 by Sandra Wilson. She was downsized out of her job and decided it was time to start her own home-based business. For inspiration she looked to her son’s tiny feet. Sandra handcrafted a pair of shoes for her son, Robert, and was pleased to see that the soft soles allowed him to “feel” the floor, which helped his balance. Sandra decided to name the shoes after her son and “Robeez” shoes were born. Sandra took her Robeez soft-soled shoes to trade shows and was amazed by the response. She signed up 15 retailers to sell Robeez. Robeez were being made out of Sandra’s basement by Sandra herself. In 1995, Robeez hired their first sales representative. In 1997 Robeez appeared online. In 1999, Robeez moved into their first commercial space. Since then, Robeez has relocated and expanded into larger premises to accommodate the rapidly expanding operations. In 2001, Robeez sales topped $1.2 million Canadian and doubled the following year. Today, Robeez sales surpass the $15 million mark and continue to grow at an outstanding pace. Robeez is currently recognized as the world’s leading manufacturer of soft-soled leather footwear for newborns to four-year-olds. Robeez Footwear now has close to 400 employees. Robeez carries over 70 designs of shoes. Robeez continues to create and offer new options in footwear on an on-going basis. In September 2006, Robeez was acquired by the Stride Ride Corporation, now operating as Collective Brands Performance and Lifestyle Group.
